researching choral music

With over 40,000 choirs in the UK[1], it would seem that levels of choral engagement amongst adults has never been so strong. However, whilst participatory numbers look positive, the underlying factors of choral engagement remain alarmingly fluid. With cuts being made to the provision of musical education, pressures from gender equality groups on single-sex choirs, and the uncertainties that Brexit brings to the Arts, we stand at a critical point in the history of the amateur choral tradition.

My research will provide essential research into the factors affecting the current health of UK amateur choirs in order to prepare them for the challenges of the 21st Century.
